I am an unusual art historian, since I work on astronomy and astrophysics. I was a postdoc researcher at the Office for History of Science and Technology in the University of California, Berkeley (2012-2013).
After finishing a Bachelor degree in Art History (University of Granada, Spain, 1998-2003), I moved to Barcelona, where I obtained a Master degree on Curatorial and Cultural Practices in Art and New Media (MECAD-Media Center of Art & Design, and Ramon Llull University, 2005).
I worked as assistant of direction at MECAD, collaborating on diverse international projects of cultural management between 2005 and 2006.
In this period it is noteworthy my collaboration in the organization of the "Course of Specialization in Artistic Heritage Conservation and the Use of New Technologies", and in the events that took place in Spain within the framework of "Enseigner/ Produire. Le salon des prototypes", a project organized by Le Fresnoy, Centre Pompidou, MECAD, and ZKM-Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, supported by Cultura2000.
I was granted a FPU fellowship (Training of Professors, research and teaching fellowship) by the Ministry of Education and Culture in Spain from 2004 to 2007. As part of this program, I worked as intern professor at the Art History Institute of the University of Granada (2005-2008), teaching several subjects, such as contemporary art, new media, museology, and history of aesthetics, among others.
I moved to Berlin after one-year research stay at the KHM-Academy of Media Arts Cologne.
I hold a European PhD in co-tutelle by the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Granada, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Horst Bredekamp and Prof. Dr. Ignacio Henares Cuellar.
My PhD thesis, granted by the DAAD-German Academic Exchange Service and laCaixa Foundation (2008-2010), and the Gerda Henkel Foundation (2010-2011), got the Outstanding Doctorate Award given by the University of Granada.
I have collaborated with several research projects, such as "The technical image/Das Technische Bild" (Hermann von Helmholtz-Zentrum für Kulturtechnik, Humboldt Univeristy of Berlin), where I was an associate member, and "Liquid Things" (Art & Science Department of the University of Applied Arts, Vienna), a project of which I was co-author, and a team member for six months.
Besides, I usually collaborate with artists and scientists to develop theoretical and curatorial projects. I was a member of "Fluid Skies", an interdisciplinary group composed of the astrophysicist Jaime E. Forero-Romero and the artist Yunchul Kim.
My interests are focused on astronomy, astrophysics, cosmology (specially the representation of the Universe on large scales), history of science, arts that use media of an electronic or digital nature, engraving in the early modern period, the artistic potential of hydrodynamics, the methodological influence of art and science, as well as on the challenges of the current societies.
I usually give lectures and publishes texts in diverse international contexts and media.
In 2014 I came back to Spain to take part in the collective making of the political party PODEMOS (We Can). This year I worked as local assistant of Lola Sanchez, Member of the European Parliament, and was a member of the Technical Team that organised the first Citizen Assembly (constituent assembly of the party).
I was a member of Podemos Citizen Council (its political direction body) from its creation in November 2014 until its renewal in the second Citizen Assembly.
As part of the National Citizen Council, I was a member of the coordination board of the Secretariat of Organization, coordinating the implementation of the territorial structure of the party.
I drove the creation of the National Area of Scientific Policies and R&D, which was finally created in September 2015 under my direction. Therefore, I was in charge of giving the party its contents related to science and research.
Besides, I am a member of the Citizen Council of Andalusia and was part of the Citizen Council of Almeria.
Since April 2015 I am a Member of Parliament in Andalusia, where I am the Podemos spokeperson in the Commission of Culture.
